knowing why, D.J. turned her face to the side and rubbed her cheek along the child's downy head, placing a kiss on the damp brow. A little hand curled around D.J.'s arm and a sigh escaped the child's lips as she rooted closer.
A quiet sound drew D.J.'s attention. With her cheek still resting on the child's head, D.J. glanced up. McCall stood in the doorway staring at her, the expression on his face a combination of want and need and wonder. D.J.'s heart contracted and her breath caught. Though what sanity she still possessed screamed at her to turn away, she found herself caught in the web of Christian McCall's eyes, unable to deny him the sight of her own desire.

Chris couldn't tear his gaze from the scene before him. With sleeping children around her feet, a cherub at her knee, and an angel in her arms, D.J. Halloran looked like an Irish Madonna. How had she done it? He could have sworn she would run screaming from the day-care facility in ten minutes, especially after he'd left her along with the toddlers. Instead, she had them all sleepingexcept for Jimmy, of coursebut Jimmy always avoided sleep like spinach soufflé. Chris nodded toward a mat in the corner and Jimmy crawled across the rug to lie down, though his eyes remained wide open and trained on D.J.
She looked more relaxed than Chris had ever seen herand more beautiful. Any thought he'd had of fighting the irritating attraction between them withered and died. Instead, the seeds of desire grew stronger within him.
